Polish American Night at the Phillies on Monday, June 6th, 2011, was a great event as Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia was filled with enthusiastic fans and a special Polish American spirit. The crowd of 45,777 was the second largest attendance at a Phillies game during the regular season.
The evening began with pre-game performances at the entrances of Citizens Bank Park by the Polish American String Band and the P.K.M. Polish Folk Dancers. The 50-plus performers got the crowd ready for the well-played game which the Phillies won 3 to 1 against the LA Dodgers.
Right before the game the Polish American String Band performed on the field, followed by a performance by the P.K.M. Polish Folk Dancers. During the performance, the Phillies Phanatic, waving a Polish flag, joined the P.K.M. dancers and the string band to help celebrate Polish pride on this night at the Phillies.
During the game the PhanaVision cameras focused on our Polish groups in attendance and during the 7th inning stretch, P.K.M. dancers, Teresa Krakowiak and Kasia Gmyr, danced with the Phillie Phanatic on top of the Phillies dugout. The names of twenty three Polish American groups were displayed on the announcement board.
Our thanks to the thousands of Polish American Phillies fans who attended. All in all it was a great night for the Phillies and a great night for the Polish American community. Plans are already underway for another night at the Phillies next year.
