Polonia Bids Farewell to Hilary Czaplicki

Hilary S. Czaplicki, a long-time Polish American community activist, passed away on Sunday, May 21, 2017.

Mr. Czaplicki, a native-born Philadelphian, was raised in the Kensington-Fishtown area. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Alliance College, Cambridge Springs, PA, in Economics and English, and in 1950, Hilary received a Masters degree from Columbia University Graduate school of Journalism.

Hilary Czaplicki served in the U.S. Army for two years (1950-1952), where he served with the Military Government office, 28th Infantry Division. He has been the Pulaski Day Parade Chairman from 1957 to 1959, served as President of the Polish American Congress, Eastern Pennsylvania District from 1960 to 1970 and then again from 1974 to 1976. He served 32 years as Censor of the Polish National Alliance from 1975 to 2007, National Vice President of the Polish American Congress, Co-Chairman of the 50th Commemorative Observance Committee of the Invasion of Poland and Beginning of World War II, President of PNA Lodge 714 and a member of the Polish American Cultural Center Museum Committee. For his many tireless years of service to the Polish American organizations, Hilary was selected as the 1989 Philadelphia Pulaski Day Parade Grand Marshal. He resided in Bensalem with his wife, Dolores.

Mass of Christian Burial took place on Friday, May 26, 2017, at St. Ephrem Church and interment was at Resurrection Cemetery.

The Polish American Congress, Easterm Pennsylvania District, Polish American Cultural Center Museum in Historic Philadelphia, and the entire Polonia extend condolences to the family of Hilary Czaplicki, his wife, Dolores, son Hilary (Diane) and his 3
grandchildren. May he rest in peace!
