Polish American Salute General Kosciuszko
Kosciuszko Day 2018 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

On February 3rd, Historic Philadelphia was filled with Polish American pride as people gathered at the Tribute Ceremony at the Kosciuszko House, 3rd & Pine Streets in Philadelphia, to mark American Revolutionary War Hero, General Thaddeus Kosciuszko’s 272nd Anniversary of his birth and the 201st Anniversary of his death. Michael Blichasz, President of the Polish American Congress (PAC), Eastern Pennsylvania District, joined with the PAC Officers, in extending a THANK YOU to everyone who attended the ceremony to mark another memorable day in Polish American history and the City of Philadelphia.

The ceremony continued with the presentation of the American and Polish flags and their banner by the Polish Army Veteran Association Post #12, Bensalem, PA, Frankford High School U.S. Army JROTC Battalion and the Polish Scouts “Harcerstwo” Port Richmond. Singing of the American and Polish national anthems took place followed by Rev. Joseph Krajewski from St. Adalbert Parish and Rev. Tadeusz Lizinczyk, Provincial, National Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa, Doylestown, PA, presented the invocation. Greetings was extended by Councilman Bill Greenlee and Captain Michael Matulewicz, Master Mariner, gave a beautiful presentation about Thaddeus Kosciuszko and the importance of keeping our Polish culture alive. Theresa Romanowski, Vice President of Polish American Congress, Eastern Pennsylvania District, acknowledged the National Park Service and the presidents and directors of the various organizations.

A delicious luncheon, catered by Grazyna Czapla, followed at the Polish American Cultural Center Museum, 3rd and Walnut Streets in Historic Philadelphia. The luncheon program was conducted by Theresa Romanowski, and Fr. Tadeusz Lizinczyk and Fr. Joseph Krajewski offered the invocation. During the lunch, guests were entertained with a musical presentation by the Jelski family children, greetings were given by Paul Sosnowski, Polish & Slavic Federal Credit Union General Counsel and VP Compliance, and the youth from St. Adalbert Polish Language School and Polish Scouting Group from Port Richmond presented a slide presentation on the 100th Anniversary of Poland’s Independence after World War I. They concluded the program with Polish songs to celebrate Kosciuszko Day. Compliments to St. Adalbert Polish Language School President Danuta Eichler and their Music Teacher Maria Koleda.
